Box Score MARION, Ind. — Elizabeth Breckbill finished her junior season with a team-high 10 kills for the Goshen College women's volleyball team Wednesday night, but the Maple Leafs lost in three sets to Indiana Wesleyan University by a score of 25-15, 25-20, 25-13 at Luckey Arena.
Tessa Clark led the Maple Leafs (8-27, 2-16) with 14 digs as the libero while Ally Roehr added a team-high 17 assists and Shelbey Younts added 12. Breckbill and Taylor Eash each contributed two of the team's four blocks.
Indiana Wesleyan, the third-ranked team in the NAIA coaches' poll released Wednesday morning, wrapped up a share of the Crossroads League regular-season championship with the win. The Wildcats (31-1, 17-1) had three players finish with double figures in kills and hit .417 as a team. Allison Sparrow led all players with 12 kills and 5 blocks while Ana Collar had 10 and 4 respectively.
Havyn Gates led Indiana Wesleyan with 13 digs, accounting for more than a third of the team total. Collar and Annie Fong each had 2 aces. Alex Falcone led all players with 45 assists. IWU finished with 48 kills against 8 errors in addition to 7 aces and 7 blocks.
IWU never trailed in the first set, getting a 7-2 run to open a 16-9 lead en route to the set win.
A pair of Taylor Eash blocks gave Goshen a 7-5 lead in the second set, and the Maple Leafs later pulled ahead 12-9, but the Wildcats came right back to tie the set at 12. After the teams traded the next six points, IWU used a 6-1 spurt to go up 21-16 and finished the set from there.
IWU also led wire-to-wire in the third set with runs of 3, 5 and 6 points in the opening portion of the stanza.
The loss concludes Goshen's regular season with the Maple Leafs taking ninth place in the Crossroads League. All-conference awards are slated to be announced at the conclusion of the conference tournament.
