Five hit double figures in blowout of Calumet

Box Score

GOSHEN, Ind. — A quintet of Goshen College women's basketball players hit double figures in the scoring column Saturday as the Maple Leafs finished an undefeated weekend with a 99-67 win over Roosevelt University in the penultimate game of the Maple Leaf Classic.

TaNiece Chapman led the Maple Leafs with 16 points and 10 rebounds as Goshen (4-2) poured in 63 points after halftime, including 33 in the third quarter.

Mariah Roe was second on the team with 14 points and third with 5 rebounds while Suzanna Yoder scored a career-high 11 points.

Alyssa Lovato scored 17 points on 6-of-17 shooting for the Crimson Wave (0-5). Alexis Switzer added 13 points and Krystina Barksdale contributed 12, while the team lead in rebounds came from Hayley Collins with 7.

The teams shot similar percentages, with Goshen checking in at 42 percent (32-for-77) and Roosevelt at 38 percent (27-for-71). The Maple Leafs ran up the difference in free throws, making 24 to Roosevelt's 5, and picked up 24 extra possessions through the combination of rebounds and turnovers.

Keyaira Murff posted 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots while Janara Flowers led GC with 3 steals. Kiarah Copeland, Graysen Cockerham and Roe all had 4 assists apiece.

Goshen's 99 points marked the 11th-highest scoring output in program history, a span that includes more than 1,200 games dating back to 1965. The team had not scored that many points in regulation since a 101-71 win over Warner Southern in December of 2000. The 33-point third quarter and 63-point second half are both program bests since women's college basketball returned to quarters in 2015.

Despite the final score, Calumet actually led 19-17 at the quarter, holding the Maple Leafs to 4-of-18 shooting (22.2 percent) while hitting on 7 of their 15 shots for 46.7 percent. The Crimson Wave led by as many as 8 after back-to-back Lovato 3s made it 18-10.

Goshen finished the half on a 26-10 run, hitting on 7 of 18 shots in the second quarter and taking the lead for good with 6:16 to go. The Maple Leafs had a 7-0 run to pull ahead by as many as 8 and led 36-28 at intermission.

The teams combined for 54 points in the third quarter, aided by 7 three-pointers and an aggregate 9-of-13 mark at the foul line. Perhaps a bigger factor for the Maple Leafs, though, was their 8 offensive rebounds in 14 chances that allowed the team to sink 11 field goals in the period.

All told, another 26-10 run put the hosts up 20 and Sadre'a Rougeau sparked a 6-point spurt to end the quarter with a 69-49 lead.

The Maple Leafs were perfect at the foul line, drained half their 3-pointers and shot 53 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter, one in which they outscored CCSJ 30-18. The Crimson Wave shot 8-of-22 (36 percent. Goshen led by as many as 31 points after a 14-5 run capped by back-to-back Roe buckets with 3:37 left.

Goshen is idle at midweek before returning to the floor next weekend at Grace's Hoops for Hope Classic in Winona Lake. The Maple Leafs and Lancers will again play the same opponents but not each other, squaring off with Grace Christian University and Holy Family College on Friday and Saturday.
