MARION, Ind. — Coming off the high of a season sweep of Taylor University for the first time since 1964, the Goshen College baseball team found Grant County less inviting this weekend. Indiana Wesleyan University took all three games from the Maple Leafs by scores of 6-2, 13-0 and 5-4 in the series that marked the midpoint of the conference season.

FRIDAY: Indiana Wesleyan 6, Goshen 2 (box score)

Bobby Garcia posted a pair of hits and Mitchell Wilson added a double for the Maple Leafs (12-21, 6-9), who brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning and the on-deck circle in the ninth.

Indiana Wesleyan (13-24, 7-8) did its damage in four consecutive innings, sandwiching single runs in the third, fifth and sixth around a 3-spot in the fourth. Tanner Killian went 3 for 4 with 2 runs batted in while Lucas Goodin contributed two hits and Tye Thixton scored twice. Catcher Brady West also drove in a pair.

The Maple Leafs' runs both came in the sixth inning after Colby Malson led off by reaching on an error. Clinton Stroble II followed that with a single, moving Malson to third, before Tanner Logan hit a sacrifice fly and Wilson added his double.

SATURDAY: Indiana Wesleyan 13, Goshen 0 (box score)

IWU jumped out to a 4-0 lead after an inning of play and held Goshen to four singles in the middle game of the series, which is scheduled for 7 innings per conference policy. Five Wildcats recorded multiple hits and the hosts scored in four of their six offensive innings.

Conner Cantrell allowed four hits and two walks in an 82-pitch complete game. Caleb Eder drove in three runs and scored twice. Baylee Young worked four innings out of the bullpen for the Maple Leafs, striking out 4.

SATURDAY: Indiana Wesleyan 5, Goshen 4 (box score)

All of the scoring in the series finale came one run at a time as both teams scored in the first, fourth, seventh and ninth innings in addition to a Wildcat run in the sixth. Ben Longacre's ninth-inning single tied the score at 4 and forced the game into the bottom of the ninth inning, but a one-out Thixton single sent the Wildcats home with the series sweep.

The Maple Leafs had gotten on the board at their first time of asking, a Wilson sacrifice fly with two away in the first inning, but the lead was short-lived before IWU tied things with a homer in the bottom of the frame. Kody McGuire singled in Garcia in the fourth only for the Wildcats to pull level on a bases-loaded walk.

After a Brady West single put the hosts in front for the first time in the sixth inning, Goshen got its own bit of luck when Brighton Schofield's bunt to start the seventh turned into a throwing error and left a runner on second. A more conventional sacrifice moved him to third, setting up a Malson game-tying single.

Malson and Longacre each finished with 2 hits for Goshen; Anthony Todaro had the team's lone double. Garcia stole a pair of bases. Kyle Staelgraeve, Colton Daniel and Malson ppitched at least two innings apiece.

Third baseman Lucas Goodlin and second baseman Nick Coy each had three hits for IWU. Coy added a double while Brady West went yard.

Goshen travels to Spring Arbor University on Tuesday to begin the lone midweek series of the conference season, which opens with a single game this week and ends with a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 16. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Burbridge Field.
