Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College women's volleyball team reached the midpoint of its Crossroads League season Saturday in a three-set loss to Taylor University at Gunden Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-19, 25-20 and 25-18.
Taylor Eash led Goshen (6-15, 1-8) with 8 kills and Madison Coles had 6 with a .417 hitting percentage, tops on the team. Ally Roehr added 16 assists and 7 digs, the latter of which was second only to Jennifer Ritchie's 9. Eash also paced the team with 2 blocks.
Taylor (13-12, 4-5) got a match-high 11 kills from Grace Isaacs in addition to 8 from Kacy Bragg and Ryan Czerniak. Amanda Adams and Julia Pomerenke each finished with 7. The Trojans hit .330 as a team with Isaacs, Czerniak and Bragg all coming in above that mark.
Abby DeSimpelare recorded a double-double with 18 assists and 12 digs while Erin Peugh led all players with 15 digs: Taylor accumulated 51 as a team. Nikki Parrett posted 4 aces.
The Trojans used a 6-point run to swing an 8-6 hole into a 12-8 lead in the first set, holding on while Goshen got back within two points on a pair of occasions. They took three of the first four points in the second set and led from there on out. In the third stanza, GC trimmed the margin to one point at 6-5 but was never able to tie the match before a 4-point spurt made it 15-8.
Goshen now hits the road for its next eight matches, playing four conference road matches sandwiched around a tournament at Indiana Tech. The next scheduled rendezvous for the Maple Leafs is Wednesday, when they return to the building where they started their season to play Huntington at 7 p.m.
