Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College women's volleyball team pushed 24th-ranked Marian to the limit Wednesday night, taking at least 20 points off the NAIA's no. 24 team in a four-set loss to start each team's Crossroads League schedule. The Knights won 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22 at Gunden Gymnasium.
Jennifer Ritchie led the Maple Leafs (4-7) with 15 kills while Haylee Pennington recorded 9. Elizabeth Breckbill and Taylor Eash finished with 8 apiece.
Marian (6-0) played its first four-set match of the season, getting 17 winners from Skyler Van Note and 10 from Sarah Spangler. Megan Hawley led all players with 18 digs and Maggie Meyer also finished in double figures with 10.
Goshen's Ally Roehr led all players with 37 assists.
The Knights used a 4-0 run with kills by Maddie Keerns, Anne Strevels and Spangler to turn around the opening set, going from an 11-9 hole to a 13-11 lead and never trailing again. Goshen responded by opening an 11-4 lead in the second stanza and hanging on through a 6-0 Marian run that cut the margin to 15-13. MU reeled off six straight points in the third set and eight of the first 11 in the fourth.
The Maple Leafs step back out of conference play this weekend, traveling to Siena Heights University for a tri-match that also includes Indiana University South Bend. Goshen plays the first two matches of the three-match slate, squaring off with the host Saints at 3:30 p.m. before meeting the Titans at 5:30.
