Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — Kaitlyn Begley scored three minutes after halftime and Paige Renshaw added a walk-off winner eight seconds before the end of the first overtime period as Goshen College topped Bluffton University 2-1 in a battle of Mennonite colleges Wednesday night at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.
The Maple Leafs (2-2) outshot the Beavers (0-3) by a 24-3 margin, but neither team was able to break through in the opening 45 minutes as the match went to halftime scoreless. Goshen had 10 of the 11 and finished the match with 6 corner kicks to Bluffton's 1.
Nina McGinn leveled the score with an unassisted strike 9:39 before the end of regulation.
Goshen attempted to render the overtime moot, getting off four shots and a corner kick in the final eight minutes of the second half, but Jules Frazier made three saves and one final attempt went wide. The Maple Leafs also took three unsuccessful shots in the extra session.
Renshaw and Begley each took more shots than the entire opposing team, finishing with four attempts apiece. Amanda Heckaman and Emie Peterson each took three shots and a quartet of Maple Leafs finished with 2. Katie Baer made a single save in goal to go over the 300-save plateau for her career.
Jules Frazer made 12 saves for the Beavers, who got three shots from three different players and dipped into their bench to make seven substitutions.
GC hosts Cleary University at 7 p.m. Saturday.
