Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. — TaNiece Chapman shot 7-of-13 from the floor and added a team-high 14 rebounds for a double-double Wednesday night, scoring 17 points in Goshen College's 60-53 loss to Spring Arbor University at SAU's McDonald Athletic Center.
The Maple Leafs (8-13, 1-8) got to the offensive glass at will, pulling down 21 offensive rebounds, but the Cougars (7-13, 2-7) outshot their guests 40 percent to 31 percent to earn the conference win.
Teona Feldpausch led Spring Arbor with 15 points. The Cougars had a quartet in double figures, with Gracie Cabana scoring 13 points and Cierra Lipps and Anne Marie Wright adding 12 each. Grace Shoobridge accounted for six of the remaining eight points.
Shoobridge led all players with 18 rebounds, 17 of which came on the defensive side of the ball, and Feldpausch came within a rebound of a double-double as well.
Keyaira Murff and Graysen Cockerham each finished with 7 boards for the Maple Leafs. Cockerham added 13 points and 3 assists to the offense as well.
Spring Arbor used an 8-0 run to take control in the first 3½ minutes, going up 11-4 on a Lipps 3-pointer and leading 18-10 at the quarter. Goshen held SAU to a 2-of-10 mark from the floor in the second period, with Suzanna Yoder scoring four of the first 8 points as the Leafs got back within 20-18. All told, the second period was a 12-6 Maple Leaf run and the Cougars went into the locker room up 24-22.
The momentum swung back to the hosts over the first half of the third quarter as Spring Arbor opened on a 13-2 run to go up as many as 13. A Wright 3-pointer at the 2:24 mark capped an 8-0 run that made it 45-28.
Goshen outscored SAU 16-12 in the fourth quarter, getting the margin back within 5 points on a Mariah Roe bucket with 6:10 left, but the clock would run out on the Maple Leafs' comeback chances after two turnovers on the next two possessions. Spring Arbor added five fourth-quarter free throws to ice the game.
Goshen opens the second half of Crossroads League play Saturday in a doubleheader at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. with the men's game following at approximately 3.
