Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — Trevor Commissaris scored a career-high 26 points as the Goshen College men's basketball team eased past Siena Heights 85-61 Tuesday night in each team's season opener.
The post player from Traverse City, Mich., sank 11 of 15 field goal attempts and four of five foul shots, playing 29 minutes and besting a mark of 22 points he set in a game at Judson on Dec. 20, 2014.
Four other Goshen players scored in double figures: Christian Grider scored 14, one shy of his career mark, while Austin Hayden had 13, Conner Funkhouser 12 and Kevin Phillips 11. Hayden, a freshman, and Phillips, a junior transfer, were both making their Goshen debuts. Funkhouser also set a career best, surpassing his previous record by a single point.
The Maple Leafs (1-0) shot 55.2 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent beyond the arc, earning assists on 19 of their 32 field goals. Funkhouser pulled down 10 rebounds, earning himself a double-double and leading all players: Grider had nine boards as well.
Siena Heights (0-1) got 20 points from George Goodman in 18 minutes.
The Maple Leafs host the Best Western Classic this weekend, meeting Moody Bible at 6 p.m. Friday and Lawrence Tech at 1 p.m. Saturday.
