Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — They may have fallen out of the NAIA national coaches poll this week, but the Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan University proved too consistent for the Goshen College volleyball team Wednesday night as the Maple Leafs dropped a three-set Crossroads League match inside Gunden Gymnasium.
Whitney Peterson and Lexa Magnuson led Goshen with seven and six kills respectively, but the Maple Leafs were done in by eight attack errors in each set as they lost 25-19, 25-23, 25-15. A large part of Indiana Wesleyan's success came at the net: the Wildcats ended four points with solo blocks and got a match-high 13 kills from Kylie Portera.
Goshen got 10 assists apiece from Lisa Rodriguez and Kelsey Smith on the evening: along with their 40-23 kill advantage, however, the Wildcats also held a 39-22 edge in assists.
Goshen's record falls to 8-6 on the season and 2-5 in the Crossroads League. Indiana Wesleyan improves to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in league play, with the lone loss coming to undefeated Mount Vernon Nazarene. Goshen will reach the midpoint of the conference season on Saturday when it hosts Huntington: before that, however, the Maple Leafs travel to Spring Arbor on Friday night for a 7 p.m. match.
