Madonna Turns Tables On Women in 3-0 Loss

Box Score

LIVONIA, Mich. — The road proved less than kind to the Goshen College women's soccer team Saturday evening, as the Maple Leafs fell behind early and never caught up in a 3-0 non-conference loss at Madonna University.

Coming off season-opening wins by scores of 4-0 and 3-1, the Maple Leafs had started their season by scoring early (two minutes after halftime and five minutes after the opening whistle) and leaving their foot on the proverbial gas. Saturday night, the host Crusaders did exactly that, taking five of the first six shots and putting their first goal on the board one second shy of the nine-minute mark.

After the dust had settled, Kelly Capoccia scored all three goals to earn the hat trick: Jennifer Jurcak assisted twice. The Cougars finished with a 22-2 shot advantage and fired 11 times on frame. Natalie Thorne made three saves in goal, followed by five from Molly Zook.

Melanie Drinkwater and Kate Crawford each took shots for Goshen, which falls to 2-1. The Maple Leafs will attempt to rebound with three games on their home field in the next week, starting with a Tuesday night match against Purdue-Calumet. Kickoff at the Goshen College Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m. EDT.

More, including comments from Goshen head coach Scott Gloden, to come when available.
