Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — Four pregame senior recognitions set the mood for the Goshen College women's volleyball team on Friday night, but Taylor University got the win on the court in a three-set Crossroads League match at Gunden Gymnasium.
Sydney Cruz finished with 5 kills, Hallie Vanitvelt posted 2 kills and a block, Meghan Manley recorded an ace and 7 digs, and MacKinnon Tracy added 5 digs as the Maple Leaf class of 2019 played its 46th and final regular-season match on its home floor.
Elizabeth Breckbill finished with 6 kills, an outright team high, and 2 blocks to share the honors with Cruz and Taylor Eash for the Maple Leafs (8-24, 2-14).
Julia Pomerenke, Amanda Adams and Grace Isaacs all finished with 9 winners for the Trojans (16-16, 9-8).
Breckbill and Vanitvelt assisted each other on a block and Breckbill posted her first kill of the match to tie the score twice in the early going before Taylor finished off a first-set win. The Trojans also won the first four points of the second stanza, but Jennifer Ritchie's kill sparked a 3-point Maple Leaf run to close the margin back to 12-9. Breckbill would add a pair of kills later in the set, but Taylor claimed it with a 25-18 win for a two-set lead.
GC had its best start of the match in the third set, when Breckbill's kill gave the hosts a 1-0 lead and a three-point run on Brooklyn Harris' serve made the score 4-2. Eash and Cruz combined on a block and Cruz added a kill to push that edge out to 7-5.
The Trojans got three points out of Pomerenke over the next nine rallies as the visitors rallied for a 13-8 edge, but Cruz and Vanitvelt each added winners over the next five points as Goshen stayed alive.
Eash finished her sophomore home slate with kills on two of Goshen's last three points; Ritchie intervened with a kill to make it 24-17 one point before Taylor sealed the match.
Goshen will close its regular season with a two-match road trip, visiting Spring Arbor at 3 p.m. Saturday and Grace at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

13/11: Both teams got double-doubles from their setters: Goshen's Naomi Willis finished with 13 assists and 11 digs while Taylor's Haley Harrell recorded 31 and 14 respectively. All four figures in this section were team highs.
208: The teams combined for 208 attack attempts; with 109 rallies after subtracting the aces and service errors, that works out to almost two attacks per point for the entire match.
