Box Score WINONA LAKE, Ind. — The first Crossroads League road trip of the season was not what the Goshen College women's soccer team had hoped for Saturday night in a 6-0 loss to Grace College at 1st Source Bank Field on the Grace campus.
The Lancers improved to 10-1 this season after opening the scoring in less than 6 minutes as Kristen Bellinger scored the game's first goal. Grace tested the Maple Leaf defense with three more shots on goal in the first 15 minute minutes, although Lancer keeper Bethany Blackwood would be called into action as well to make two first-half saves.
Goshen blocked three Grace shots in the first half as well, but went into halftime trailing 2-0 after Joana Schimmel scored on a Jenni Phillips assist with 12:29 remaining.
The Lancers added their third goal on a Phillips penalty kick nine minutes after halftime and Liz Van Wormer made the lead 4-0 in the 65th minute. Grace finished the scoring with two more goals 93 seconds apart by Clair Snodgrass and Van Wormer.
Kaitlyn Begley led Goshen (4-3-2, 0-2) with two shots. Katie Baer made seven saves and Kadie Spoor added three.
Van Wormer took eight shots and Blackwood made three stops for Grace (10-1, 2-0), which took 30 shots and three of the match's four corner kicks.
Notable Numbers:
20: Each team used 20 players in the contest, a season high for the Maple Leafs. Ella Jantzen made her collegiate debut in Goshen purple while Spoor, Noelia Calderon and Gabey Vogeler saw action for the second time each this season.
22: The teams combined for 22 fouls — 16 on Goshen and 6 on Grace — in contrast to the simultaneous men's game between the two schools, which saw each team commit at least 19 fouls.
