Box Score HUNTINGTON, Ind. — Haylee Pennington racked up 14 kills and Taylor Eash contributed six blocks for Goshen College, but Huntington University rallied from a two-sets-to-one deficit to take Wednesday night's Crossroads League women's volleyball match in five sets at Platt Arena.
Tessa Clark led all players with 38 digs for the Maple Leafs in a 25-21, 20-25, 20-25, 25-13, 15-10 loss.
Huntington (10-10, 4-6) got 19 winners out of Paige Eakright and 12 from Brandy Michie while Jennings Tacosik finished with 45 assists. Ariene Butler added 36 digs, one of five players to hit double figures in that category. The Foresters finished with 7 blocks, of which Tya Bynum participated in 5.
Jennifer Ritchie added 19 digs and 3 aces for Goshen (6-16, 1-9). Madison Coles had a hand in 4 blocks and Elizabeth Breckbill contributed 3 along with 7 kills. Olivia Koop and Roehr finished with 6 winners apiece.
Huntington led wire-to-wire in the first set after taking an early 7-3 lead, but Goshen flipped that script on its head with five of the first six points and eight of the last 10 in set number two. The first lead change within a set came when an attack error made it 4-3 Huntington in the third.
GC won back-to-back points on Clark's serve to go up 6-5, but wouldn't seize control of the set until a Roehr kill capped a 3-point run to make it 15-12. GC would not trail for the rest of the stanza and hit .235 in the third set, forcing Huntington into 9 errors along with 12 kills.
The Foresters took the early lead in set four, going up 4-1 on an attack error and never letting Goshen get back within three points. While HU pulled ahead 4-2 in the fifth set as well, Goshen came back to level the score at 5 on kills by Roehr and Coles and the match was tied at each of the next three chances.
From 8-all, Huntington won five out of six points behind four kills and an ace. Michie finished with 5 kills in the deciding set and Eakright recorded four.
Goshen is off this weekend as its six straight days without a match form the team's longest break of the regular season. The Maple Leafs return to the court next Wednesday at Grace for a 7 p.m. first serve.
