Box Score

GOSHEN, Ind. — Jennifer Ritchie, Olivia Koop and Haylee Pennington each led the Goshen College women's volleyball team with 7 kills Wednesday night in a four-set Crossroads League loss to the University of Saint Francis in Gunden Gymnasium. The Cougars won 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 25-13.

Elizabeth Breckbill added 6 winners and Madison Coles contributed 5, so the only Maple Leaf starter that didn't reach 5 kills was the setter, Shelbey Younts, who led the team with 14 assists. Ally Roehr added 12 assists off the bench and libero Tessa Clark picked up 15 digs.

Kendra Siefring registered 12 kills and 6 blocks to lead the Cougars (20-10, 11-4) in both categories. USF outblocked Goshen 12.5 to 4 on the night. Anne Clark and Megan Diagostino each had a hand in 4 blocks while Hissong added 11 winners on a match-high 27 swings.

Maria Pelak of USF led all players with 39 assists, while her 15 digs were 3 short of Nikki Marshall's match high.

Goshen (7-23, 1-13) took its first lead of the match at 1-0 in the second set, but the Maple Leafs got their first prolonged advantage with a 6-2 run to start the third. The hosts got another 4-point spurt to break open an 11-all tie and would not trail again in the set, although USF tied the score at 22 and 23.

A Cougar attack error sent the match to a fourth set, but only after eight of Goshen's previous nine points came on kills.

In the fourth set, Goshen jumped to a 4-1 lead before USF flipped the script and went up 9-5. The Maple Leafs were able to close within 13-11, but the Cougars won eight of the next 10 points on kills, blocks or aces to knock on the door of match point.

SIefring, whose error ended the third set, sealed the match with an ace.

Goshen steps out of conference play for the final time this season with a visit to IU South Bend on Saturday. First serve is set for 1 p.m. in the Student Activities Center.
