Ranked Marian foe too much for Goshen

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS — The defense of the Goshen College women's soccer team held on for more than an hour Saturday, but the number-16 team in the NAIA proved too much to overcome as Marian University topped the Maple Leafs 3-0 at St. Vincent Health Field.

Goalkeeper Katie Baer made 6 saves, including a penalty kick, and the Maple Leafs fended off Marian's first 22 shots before the Knights cracked the scoreboard in the second half.

Siera Stuart opened the scoring when she followed up her saved penalty kick with 21:58 left in regulation. The Knights (11-1-1, 3-0) went up 2-0 with 20:40 left on an Allyson McAtamey strike assisted by Erin Oleksak. The last goal would come from Oleksak with help by Natalie Prena at the 9:58 mark.

Paige Renshaw led the Maple Leafs (6-5, 1-3) with a shot on goal; Marian registered 6 shots from Oleksak, 5 from Stuart and 4 apiece from McAtamey and Chloe Ulmer. The Knights finished with 25 total attempts.

Marian netminder Claire Gavin made one save.

The Maple Leafs return home Wednesday night to host 15th-ranked Spring Arbor University at the John Ingold Athletic Complex. Kickoff time is set for 7:30 p.m.
