Box Score MARION, Ind. — The Goshen College men's soccer team returned to the scene of its 2014 Crossroads League tournament runner-up finish Saturday night and found the going similarly rocky: Indiana Wesleyan snapped Goshen's three-game win streak with a 3-0 defeat.
The Wildcats took an early lead on a corner kick in the 16th minute when Keaton Albert scored. Caleb Denlinger doubled the advantage 2:06 before halftime on a shot from distance to the undefendable upper corner of the net, and Corey Lopez added an insurance goal with 29:56 to play.
Dean Nafziger saved the Wildcats' other three attempts on frame to preserve the final score line, while Josh Goepper made four saves to earn the shutout. Indiana Wesleyan, which has not allowed a goal in 419 minutes, blanked its fourth opponent in a row.
The Maple Leafs mustered only five attempts in a physical contest that averaged a more than a foul every four minutes. Josh Stoltzfus led Goshen with two shots and was one of four players with a shot on goal.
Indiana Wesleyan (9-4) preserved its tie for first in the Crossroads League at 4-1, knocking Goshen (4-9) a game behind the three-way deadlock to 3-2. The Maple Leafs have already faced two of the three league-leading teams and will meet the third, Grace, at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goshen College Soccer Complex.
