Eagles Too Much As Leafs Suffer First Home Loss

Box Score

GOSHEN, Ind. — A second-half goal from sophomore Brodie Nofziger was not enough Saturday evening as the Goshen College men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to Robert Morris University on the pitch at the Goshen College Soccer Complex.

Nofziger's tally with 20:56 remaining, dribbling in from the left side and firing past the RMU goalkeeper at point-blank range, pulled his team within 4-1 after a fast start from the Eagles left Goshen looking stunned.

Anthony DiNuzzo helped open the scoring in the eighth minute, crossing a ball from the left side for John Pachar to finish. Fourteen minutes later, DiNuzzo got a goal of his own by rifling a 40-yard free kick past Goshen netminder Johan Escalante. Pachar scored again with 6:03 before halftime to put the Eagles up 3-0.

Eddie Rodriguez scored with 29:15 remaining after winning the ball from a Goshen defender, and after Nofziger took the Maple Leaf goose egg off the board, DiNuzzo scored again with 2:31 to play.

The Maple Leafs actually came out ahead in the shot column, reaching the attacking third throughout the first half before being unable to find the target from distance, in contrast to the Robert Morris scores that frequently came from counterattacks. NIne of the Eagles' 18 shots were on frame, compared to four of Goshen's 19.

After splitting its first two home games, Goshen has five days off before hosting a pair of matches in as many nights on Friday and Saturday. The Maple Leafs will face Baker at 7 p.m. Friday as part of the Goshen College Classic: Holy Cross and Georgia Gwinnett kick off the event at 5 p.m.
