Warrior Offense Proves Too Much In Non-Conference Finale

Box Score

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — On a night where the defense stopped 31 shots, the one that didn't forms the story.

Such is the case when the breaks don't go your way, which the Goshen College women's soccer team learned the hard way in a 1-0 loss at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne Tuesday night.

The Warriors' leading scorer, Megan Perrey, scored on the rebound after a Sydney Lemelin free kick with 15:32 to play for the lone score. Natalie Thorne made five saves and Molly Zook three in goal for Goshen: each netminder played for one half.

Indiana Tech took the first nine shots of the match before Melia Watkins pulled an attempt wide right with 12:23 left in the first half. Goshen's lone attempt on frame came from Lena Charles in the 63rd minute.

"I'm glad we got that loss out of our system before conference play," said Goshen head coach Scott Gloden. "That's not a game I look forward to going through again, but we have a clean slate beginning Saturday night."

Goshen's record drops below .500 (4-5) for the first time this season. But as Gloden alluded to above, all 10 Crossroads League teams start 0-0 in conference play, which the Maple Leafs begin Saturday night as Marian University visits the Goshen College Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
