Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Goshen College dropped a 2-0 women's soccer decision to Cornerstone University on the road Saturday night at the CU Soccer Stadium.
The host Warriors (5-0-1) used a 14th-minute, first-touch strike from Morgan Haddad to open the scoring as they remain undefeated. Tori Johns' goal off a loose ball with 39:01 to play set the final scoreline.
Molly Zook made 11 saves in goal for the Maple Leafs (3-4-1) in her first start since 2014. Allison Snowden had two stops in the shutout for Cornerstone.
Melanie Drinkwater took two shots for Goshen, one in each half, and put both on goal. Ginyce Haywood had a shot of her own as well. Cornerstone took 21 shots in total. The Golden Eagles earned all nine of the match's corner kicks, while the Maple Leafs committed all five fouls.
"Cornerstone was the best team we have played yet this season, which always means the game is a real test," said Goshen coach Scott Gloden. "For long stretches, we defended as a team and played well. Unfortunately the game is 90 minutes long, so we made some mistakes, and good teams punish you when you make mistakes. On the other end of the field, we didn't capitalize on the chances we had going forward."
Goshen returns to action in less than 48 hours when it hosts Marygrove at 7 p.m. Monday at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.
