Box Score

GOSHEN, Ind. — Beatriz Meneghin scored the game's only goal with 9:14 left in the first half and the Goshen College women's soccer team sent the class of 2020 out with a bang Saturday night in a 1-0 win over Huntington University at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.

Taliah Borom got the assist, putting one of Goshen's five seniors on the scoresheet in their penultimate regular-season home match, and Katie Baer made 9 saves to preserve the win in shutout fashion.

Huntington (4-10, 1-5) took 19 shots to Goshen's 14, but the Maple Leafs (7-6, 2-4) made theirs count. Over the last two-thirds of the first half, the Maple Leafs outshot the Foresters 8-2.

The visitors had a 9-6 edge in shots on goal, took 5 of the match's 7 corner kicks and committed 6 fouls while suffering 9. Kristin Byrd led all players with 6 shots, putting 3 on goal. Maddy Moan made 5 saves for Huntington.

Borom led Goshen's offense to the tune of four shots, all on target, while Meneghin and Megan Bower each attempted 2 shots and Amanda Heckaman had a shot on goal. Areanna Holifield added a save off the goal line to keep the game scoreless.

Huntington took three shots in the opening 12 minutes, forcing Baer to make 3 saves to keep the game scoreless before getting off 2 shots in the next 27 minutes. Goshen added a corner kick less than two minutes after breaking the ice, but was unable to convert.

The Foresters picked the pressure back up early in the second half, outshooting their hosts 8-1 in the final half-hour. Four of those chances missed high or wide, though, and Baer made three saves in the last 10 minutes.

Goshen hits the road next week, traveling to Saint Francis and Mount Vernon Nazarene in the team's final two road games of the regular season. The Maple Leafs visit Saint Francis first, a 7 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
