Box Score

GOSHEN, Ind. — Katie Baer rendered her services in protection of the goal on 13 occasions Wednesday night, but a lone Indiana Wesleyan University goal was the difference on the scoreboard in a 1-0 regular-season finale for the Wildcats and the Goshen College Maple Leafs in Crossroads League women's soccer action at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.

Lauren Turner scored in the 53rd minute to break a scoreless deadlock for the Wildcats (15-1-2, 8-0-1), who clinched the outright league championship during the second half when Marian upset Grace.

Turner led all players with 7 shots, putting all of them on goal. Paige Renshaw and Megan Bower each took shots for the Maple Leafs (7-8-1, 2-6-1).

Indiana Wesleyan tested the Goshen defense with 8 shots on goal out of 11 total attempts in the first half, adding three corner kicks and three free kicks to the equation. Bower hit the crossbar on Goshen's first scoring chance in the 57th minute, which would have leveled the score about 4 minutes after the icebreaker, and Renshaw's shot made Sam Castaneda record her first save with 3:55 remaining.

IWU finished the night with 19 shots, 14 of which were on goal, and recorded all 5 of the match's corner kicks.

The results of the day send Goshen into its first Crossroads League tournament since 2017 as the seventh seed, pitting the Maple Leafs against second-seeded Marian in a quarterfinal matchup on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Indianapolis. A time for that game will be announced in due course.
