Box Score 2 WESTFIELD, Ind. — Baylee Young threw a complete game on 99 pitches in one game of the doubleheader and John Sanocki struck out nine men in the second game Wednesday as Goshen College swept Lincoln College 4-0 and 9-4 in non-conference baseball action at the Grand Park Sports Campus.
Shortstop Nate Lange led Goshen (5-10) with three hits on the afternoon, including a double in game one.
Young allowed 4 hits and a walk in his outing, setting down the leadoff man in five of the seven innings for his second career complete game and first shutout. His nine strikeouts were a career high.
Lange's double gave Young all the help he needed in the fourth inning, driving in Peyton Smith after a single and Kody McGuire after a walk. Ben Longacre and Lange added sacrifice flies in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, to tack on insurance runs.
Lincoln (0-6) mounted its biggest rally of the game in the seventh, getting a leadoff single and a walk before two strikeouts and a fly ball ended the game with the tying run on deck.
KJ Fry had two hits and Urias Kelly stole a base for the Lynx, who sent Jared Reihs to the mound for 5 innings and Coby Isenbarger for one.
In the finale, played under the lights, Lange singled twice and stole two bases while Wilson added a triple. Sanocki struck out 9 and allowed 3 hits without a walk in the first four innings, giving up two earned runs en route to the win.
Wilson's triple set up GC to get on the scoreboard in the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead on a groundout. The Lynx responded with four runs in their half of the third on two hits and two errors, but promptly gave those runs back with two errors in the bottom of the inning as well. Char Reeves, Lange, Malson and Longacre all singled before the errors allowed the go-ahead run to score for a 5-4 margin after three innings.
Goshen tacked on an unearned run in the fourth, setting up Landon Roth for a hold after his scoreless inning, before four walks, two wild pitches and a sacrifice fly hooked the Leafs up with three runs in the sixth.
Toby Fox finished the game with two perfect innings of relief but did not get a save as he entered with a 5-run lead.
Jalen Jones' triple was the offensive bright spot for Lincoln; the Lynx split pitching duties between Andrew Bernas and Logan Deright.
Goshen returns to the diamond this weekend for the first series of its Crossroads League season as the Maple Leafs take on Taylor University at Sarge Yoder Field. Due to the forecast for Friday afternoon, the teams have moved their first game up to 2:30 p.m. Thursday with the second and third games to follow beginning at noon on Saturday.
