Box Score MISHAWAKA, Ind. — Trevor Commissaris posted a double-double and Devin Heath-Granger made a dozen foul shots Friday night as the Goshen College men's basketball team upended no. 10 Indiana University East 76-67 in the Gates Automotive Classic hosted by Bethel College.
Heath-Granger scored a game-high 18 points and was 12-for-15 at the foul line. Conner Funkhouser added 16 points, while Commissaris finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The rebounds were there to be had as neither team shot better than 39 percent from the floor, combining to go 6-for 53 (14.0 percent) from beyond the arc. Goshen finished with a 47-41 edge on the glass and was the beneficiary of 25 Red Wolf fouls.
Goshen extends its season-opening unbeaten run to five games, becoming the third team since 2004 to start 5-0. The last Maple Leaf squad to start the year 6-0 was the 1967-68 unit, one of only two in school history to run the table through half a dozen games. The Red Wolves drop to 3-2.
The win was Goshen's first in nearly four seasons over a team ranked in the top 10 of the NAIA Division II coaches' poll. Coincidentally, IU East was the previous such victim, losing as the no. 8 team in the nation on Dec. 13, 2011 at Gunden Gymnasium.
The Maple Leafs conclude the classic tomorrow afternoon against the Wolverines of Michigan-Dearborn. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Bethel's Weikamp Center.
