Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — All 10 players who dressed scored at least five points as the Goshen College men's basketball team dismantled Moody Bible Institute Friday evening in a 97-45 victory to kick off the Best Western Classic in Gunden Gymnasium.
Conner Funkhouser posted a new career high with 15 points to lead all scorers. Carter Boos and Dominique Bolden had 14 apiece while Kevin Phillips scored 13 and Austin Hayden 10. Eight Maple Leafs saw the floor for between 19 and 24 minutes. Bolden had a game-high nine rebounds: Trevor Commissaris was second with eight despite playing only 10 minutes.
The Goshen defense stifled the Archers' attack, holding Moody to 13 points in the first half and forcing 27 turnovers in 40 minutes. At one point, the Maple Leafs allowed no points for a 10-minute span and no field goals for 11:06.
The hosts held a decided advantage on the glass, 49-27, with Commissaris nabbing more offensive boards (six) than the entire other team (four). Bolden made three steals, making him one of six Leafs with more than one in that category.
The margin of victory was the largest for Goshen in a decade, coming four days after the 10-year anniversary of an 84-28 win over Andrews University. It was the 13th-largest margin of victory in school history and one of only 15 games (out of more than 1,400) where Goshen has allowed 45 points or fewer.
Joshua Winkler was the only Archer in double figures with 10 points.
Goshen improves to 2-0 this season and will play for a share of the Best Western Classic championship on Saturday. The hosts have won or shared the title in eight of the 12 previous events. Bethel, which dispatched Lawrence Tech 98-61 Friday night, plays Moody at 1 p.m. Saturday: the Maple Leafs meet LTU 20 minutes after that game, at approximately 3 p.m.
