Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. — If college basketball games were 20 minutes long, the Goshen College men's basketball team would have been in good shape on Saturday, leading 37-26 at halftime. But college games are 40 minutes long, and the Maple Leafs lost 80-64 to Roosevelt University at the Goodman Center in Chicago.
Roosevelt scored first to take a 2-0 lead, but Goshen roared back with a 30-11 run to jump ahead 30-13 at the 6:43 mark. Christian Grider scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a 4-for-7 clip from three-point range, and the team registered 12 assists on 13 field goals in the opening stanza.
The second half was a different story: after shooting 39 percent from the floor and 5-of-9 from the foul line in the first 20 minutes, the Lakers made 11 of their 21 attempts (52 percent) in the second half. That included a 7-for-9 mark from long range and 25 made foul shots in 28 attempts.
Korey Ryan had 19 points in the second half alone for the Lakers (6-8), followed by Jake Ludwig's 15 on only one field goal. The duo finished with 24 and 19 points, respectively, for the game. Goshen led 47-33 with 13:59 to play before trailing 66-53 in the waning minutes.
Grider's 16 points led Goshen (10-3) for the game: Dominique Bolden added 15 points and Trevor Commissaris 14. Conner Funkhouser finished with a team-high nine rebounds.
Both teams shared the ball well: Goshen finished with 18 assists and Roosevelt 16, each making 21 field goals. Each team posted four blocks as well.
The Maple Leafs will have the next nine days off before playing a pair of games between Christmas and New Year's Day. Goshen hosts Indiana University Northwest in the first such game on Tuesday, Dec. 29. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Gunden Gymnasium.
