Hot Cougar Shooting Downs Men In Fort Wayne

Box Score

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Kevin Phillips matched his Goshen College career high with 20 points but it wasn't enough to push Goshen past St. Francis Saturday in men's basketball: the Cougars won 82-77 on their home floor to complete the season sweep.

Jordan Hahn scored a game-high 26 for third-ranked St. Francis, going 8-for-9 from the floor with all nine attempts from three-point range. The Cougars shot 58.7 percent from the floor and 56.5 percent from long range.

Austin Hayden and Dominique Bolden each added 15 points for the Maple Leafs, with Hayden knocking down seven of 12 tries from the floor and Bolden a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line.

Phillips grabbed a game-high eight boards and Bolden finished with six: each team retrieved exactly 28 caroms.

St. Francis, which leads the Crossroads League with an 8-2 record, used a late 18-7 run to lead 43-30 at halftime. Goshen whittled the hole from as many as 15 points to three in the final minutes. But all three times the Maple Leafs made it a one-score game, the Cougars responded with points of their own.

Goshen falls to 12-10, 4-6 in conference play, and travels to Spring Arbor University in Michigan on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the SAU Fieldhouse, with both teams' coaching staffs set to don suits and sneakers as part of the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer program.

More, including comments from Goshen coach Neal Young, to come when available.
