Box Score AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Christian Grider scored 19 points for the Goshen College men's basketball team Friday night in a 102-59 exhibition loss at Oakland University.
The Golden Grizzlies (3-0), who play in the Summit League in NCAA Division I, finished the game shooting an even 50 percent (38-for-76) from the floor, including 21-for-37 in the first half.
OU jumped out to a 12-0 lead, with six of those points coming from Jalen Hayes in the first 90 seconds, before Goshen used a 22-15 run to close within five points at 27-22 with 9:41 left in the first half. The Maple Leafs (4-2) trailed 56-30 at halftime.
Grider's points came on 7-of-13 shooting, making him one of five Goshen players to make half their shots. The three leading scorers for the Maple Leafs all came off the bench as 10 players saw 10 or more minutes of playing time and only two saw more than 23.
Grider and Kody Chandler each drained three 3-pointers for GC, which shot 30 percent from long range and 34 percent from the floor. Xavier Newson led the Leafs with eight rebounds while matching Dominique Cartier's team-high one block. Devin Heath-Granger added seven assists.
Oakland racked up 29 assists on its 38 baskets while Goshen finished with 15 dimes on 22 buckets. OU turned the ball over 11 times while forcing 11 steals and finishing with 26 points off turnovers. Martez Walker led a quintet of Golden Grizzlies who finished with double-figure scoring: he had 21 points.
Goshen returns to regular season play on Tuesday when it hosts Huntington University in the first of four Crossroads League matchups before Christmas break. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Platt Arena on the HU campus.
