Box Score WYOMING, Mich. — Christian Grider scored a team-high 22 points and Conner Funkhouser added 21 as the Goshen College men's basketball team dropped its final non-conference game of the regular season to Grace Bible College by an 86-80 margin Saturday afternoon at the Aldrich Athletic Center.
The host Tigers (8-8) got a game-high 27 points from Jared Bradford, who sank seven of his 10 three-point tries and went 4-for-4 at the foul line in 35 minutes. Each team shot 43 percent from the floor in the first half, but Grace Bible was 10-of-16 (63 percent) from beyond the arc and took a 46-34 lead into the locker room.
Goshen (9-7) scored 46 points of its own in the second half, including a 15-of-18 mark (83 percent) at the foul line. Funkhouser and Grider each drained four 3-pointers, but the Maple Leafs were hampered by 9-of-34 (27 percent) shooting from distance in their attempts to come back.
Funkhouser posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Bernard Smith pulled down a game-high 14 caroms for GBC. Adam Rayner added 10 boards of his own for the Tigers, who claimed a 46-34 advantage on the glass.
Goshen's Xavier Newson scored 15 points, reaching double figures for the 14th time in 16 games and giving each team three players with 10 or more points. Smith scored 12 and Brandon Winchester-Jones 11 for the Tigers.
The teams combined for 41 assists against 18 turnovers. Goshen's Devin Heath-Granger led all players with seven dimes, raising his career total to 314 to match Kelly Shepherd for seventh place on GC's all-time list. Dominique Cartier added six assists of his own.
Goshen returns to the state of Michigan on Tuesday night in its first game of 2017: head coach Neal Young's team meets Spring Arbor University at 7 p.m.
