Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Dominique Bolden scored a career-high 26 points to lead all scorers, but the Goshen College men's basketball team bowed out of the Crossroads League tournament Saturday afternoon with an 80-76 loss to top-seeded St. Francis.
Bolden knocked down 9 of his 12 shots, including a pair of three-pointers, and went 6-for-7 at the foul line in the losing effort. Christian Grider and Kevin Phillips scored 14 points apiece for GC (19-13, 10-8), which received votes in the NAIA national poll.
Bryce Lienhoop paced USF (28-4, 16-2) with 22 points and 17 rebounds. The Cougars, ranked no. 2 in the nation, advance to Tuesday's championship game where they will host Indiana Wesleyan. Evan Henry added 17 points, another of five St. Francis players in double figures.
Goshen made 64 percent of its shots (14-of-22) in the second half and outshot their hosts 56 percent to 46 percent for the game, but the Cougars made up for that deficit by taking 11 more shots and knocking down 11 threes.
USF came away with nine more rebounds and five more assists: each team made 27 baskets. Grider's six assists were a game high. The game was tied 35-all at halftime.
With its conference tournament complete, Goshen now must await word from the NAIA on whether it will qualify for the Division II Men's Basketball National Championships, which are set for March 9-15 in Point Lookout, Mo. Once the 12 Division II conferences select their 23 automatic bid recipients, the next eight best teams in next Wednesday's coaches poll will join them (along with host College of the Ozarks) at nationals.
The national field will be announced on Wednesday, March 2.
More, including comments from Goshen coach Neal Young, to come when available.
