Rochester Scores Twice To Spoil Women's Soccer Senior Day

Box Score

GOSHEN, Ind. — Ashlin Taylor scored two goals, one in each half, as Rochester College knocked off Goshen College 2-0 Saturday afternoon as the Maple Leaf women's soccer team held Senior Day at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.

Taylor's first goal came less than eight minutes into the match on a shot from distance that eluded Maple Leaf netminder Natalie Thorne, while her second strike with 25:59 left in regulation came on a through ball from the left side of the attacking third.

Goshen had its chances to equalize -- seven shot attempts on the day, including three on frame -- but was unable to cash them in. Each team finished with three saves: Cali Clemens did the honors for Rochester (3-2-2), while Molly Zook had one and Thorne two for Goshen (2-3-1). Rochester finished with an 8-5 edge in corner kicks: each team committed three fouls.

Before the game, Goshen honored the 16 seniors on its varsity roster, 11 of whom have been in the program since their freshman year in 2013. Eleven of the 16 players were also academic all-Crossroads League selections last fall and eight were Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Five of Goshen's seven shots were taken by seniors, although the only player to put multiple attempts on goal, Caitlin Hughey, is a junior.

The Maple Leafs have just two days to prepare for their next contest, a trip to Calumet College of St. Joseph at 8 p.m. Goshen time Tuesday evening. The Crimson Wave play their home games at East Chicago Central High School in East Chicago, Indiana.

More, including comments from Goshen coach Scott Gloden, to come when available.
