Scoreless draw matches school record with 6-game unbeaten run

Box Score

GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College women's soccer team matched a 21-year-old record for the longest undefeated streak in program history Saturday in a 0-0 draw with the University of Rio Grande at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.

Katie Baer made 13 saves for the Maple Leafs (4-1-2), who won or drew in their sixth straight match for the first time since a 6-0 start to the 1997 season. The pair of overtimes also pushed Goshen's scoreless streak on defense out to more than 220 minutes; including the 1-1 draw last Saturday at IU East, GC has conceded once in the last three weeks (500 minutes of game action).

GC finished the match with all 9 corner kicks, holding the Red Storm (2-3-1) without one despite 21 shots. Rio Grande's Brooklyn Pritt led all players with 11 shot attempts and 6 tries on target; in goal, teammate Kelsie Lee made four saves.

The Maple Leafs produced four corner kicks in the first nine minutes, the last of which led to the game's opening shot from Kayla Shaw. The Red Storm had the honor of the first shot on goal on the ensuing possession as both teams registered three tries on target before halftime.

Although URG got the first chance to untie the game with a 49th-minute try from Rachel Haddad, Goshen would have the final attempt as Mara Beck's shot was blocked with 2:34 to go.

The 20 added minutes saw the tempo increase considerably from late in the second half as the teams combined for six shots on goal in overtime compared to two in the last 20 minutes of regulation. Baer made five saves in OT. Again, Goshen had the last chance to win, a Kaitlyn Begley attempt that was saved with 59 seconds on the clock, but when that time expired, the match came to an end.

Quotable:
Goshen College head coach Justin Crew:
"I was really proud of our team today. The players fought hard to get that result."
