Box Score INDIANAPOLIS — Goshen College's starting frontcourt of Colton Noel and Alhassan Barrie combined for 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting Saturday afternoon in a 96-67 Crossroads League men's basketball loss to Marian University.
Noel scored 16 points and Barrie 12 while Demarkus Stuckey added 9 points for the Maple Leafs (6-18, 0-12), who scored the first six points of the game and held Marian (19-5, 8-4) without a field goal for the opening six minutes.
The Knights, ranked 16th in this week's edition of the NAIA Division II coaches poll, finished the first half by making 12 of their last 22 shots, a figure that increased to 23 for 33 including free throws. Marian forced six first-half turnovers and started a 9-1 run with its opening basket, eventually leading 39-27 at the break.
Marian scored 57 points after halftime, sprinkling seven 3-pointers among its 21 field goals and extending possessions with 9 offensive rebounds. Goshen also saw its offensive production increase over the final 20 minutes, dropping 40 points on 11-of-26 shooting and converting at an 88.2 percent clip (15-for-17) from the foul line. All of Ben Cotton's 7 points came after halftime, while Noel scored 9 second-half points to pace the Maple Leafs.
Wes Stowers paced Marian with a game-high 24 points, 14 of which came in the first half. Six Knights ended up in double figures, though each of the remaining five scored either 10 or 11 points. Jonathan Nwankwo led all rebounders with 7.
Marian shot 52.4 percent from the floor, where it was 33-for-63, and 3-point range, where it was 11-for-21. The Knights were perfect in 19 attempts from the foul line. Goshen shot 44 percent (22-for-50) overall.
Stuckey accumulated a game-high 7 rebounds and Stowers led all players with 3 steals. Tamaje Blackwell and Stuckey led Goshen with 4 boards apiece while Barrie, Patryck Ostrowski, and Marian's Reginald Kissoonlal all blocked shots.
