Box Score WILBERFORCE, Ohio — Michael Bowers led the Goshen College men's basketball team with 18 points Friday night in an 81-67 loss at Wilberforce University.
Four Maple Leafs scored in double figures in the contest, followed by Austin Branagan with 17, Sheddrick Porter Jr. with 11 and Tahj Curry with 10. Porter also led the Maple Leafs with 8 rebounds.
Darnei Hariston led the Bulldogs (3-10) with 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while Anthony Jeanty added a game-high three 3-pointers on the way to 18 points. Jabril Hunter led all players with 10 points. Wilberforce shot 46 percent from the floor and 53 percent from long range in its home gym, adding a 16-of-19 performance from the foul line after halftime.
The Maple Leafs (3-5) shot 47 percent from the floor in the second half but were unable to overcome their slow start, including an 8-of-27 clip in the opening 20 minutes. Goshen added a 6-of-21 mark from downtown with Porter and Trevor Franklin each recording a pair of triples.
The offenses combined for 24 points in the first 12 minutes before a pair of Austin Branagan free throws drew Goshen within four at 15-11. The Bulldogs promptly added a 6-0 run to stretch the lead to double digits and led 31-26 at halftime.
The Bulldogs scored the first eight points coming out of the intermission to go up as many as 13, but a 10-2 Maple Leaf rally culminated in a Porter 3 at the 12:06 mark to get back within 46-41. Wilberforce had an answer for that, though, scoring the next 9 points to push the margin back into double figures, where it would stay.
Tanner Camp and Landon Newnum added late buckets for the Maple Leafs, who got all ten players onto the stat sheet in some form.
Goshen continues its two-game visit to the city of Wilberforce on Saturday against Central State University, an NCAA Division II foe. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
