Curry's 23-point game paces GC in loss to Indiana Tech

GOSHEN, Ind. — Tahj Curry scored a game-high 23 points Saturday afternoon, but Indiana Tech put five players in double figures and shot better than 60 percent in a 93-76 men's basketball win over Goshen College in Gunden Gymnasium.

Curry went 9-for-15 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the foul line, leading the Maple Leafs in shooting in both categories. Sheddrick Porter Jr. and Grant Monix each connected on a pair of 3-pointers to lead the team there and Michael Bowers posted a team-high 6 rebounds. Porter scored 16 points and Bowers had 12.

Mitch Morken, Max Huber and Jeremy Davison all scored 17 points for the Warriors (6-7), who led 46-38 at the intermission. Morken led all players with 8 rebounds and a block to go with 2 steals and 3 three-pointers. Huber was 7-of-13 from the floor and Cory McKinney was 6-for-9 on the way to 15 points. Josh Kline rounded out the double-figure quintet with 14.

Indiana Tech was 35-of-58 from the floor and 10-of-23 (44 percent) dialing long-distance. Goshen finished at 44 percent and 32 percent respectively.

The Maple Leafs (3-10) scored 9 of the game's first 11 points, forcing a Warrior timeout less than 3½ minutes after the tip. Indiana Tech responded with 10 points in a row to take the lead and broke open an 18-all tie with an 11-0 run. GC trimmed the margin to 5 points late in the first half before Huber sank the last basket of the period.

Indiana Tech had another run in store early in the second half, pulling ahead by as many as 22 points and shooting 61 percent (17-for-28) over the final 20 minutes. The Warriors enjoyed a 36-27 advantage on the glass.

Goshen's defense forced 15 turnovers while the offense handed the ball over 9 times. Monix led the team with 2 steals.

Goshen continues its descent into Christmas break with a second home game on Monday, when the Maple Leafs host Roosevelt University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Gunden Gymnasium.
