Goshen's defense forced 21 turnovers, a season high, despite registering just 4 steals. Bowers led all players with a pair of takeaways.
The Maple Leafs (4-10) shot 40 percent from the floor (18-for-45) and made hay at the foul line, converting on 24 of their 31 attempts for a 77 percent clip. Roosevelt went 9-for-16 on free throws, finishing at 56 percent.
The Lakers took an early 5-0 lead, but Goshen held its foe to one field goal in an eight-minute span as a 13-4 run covered most of the first 10 minutes. Roosevelt came back to score twice in 90 seconds, knotting the score at 13 with 7:56 remaining before a Grant Monix triple put the Maple Leafs back in front.
Goshen finished the half on a 6-0 run as 3-pointers from Curry and Cotton sent the hosts into the locker room with a 24-19 lead.
The teams combined for 13 points, almost a third of their first-half scoring, in the first 2:20 of the second half as a flurry of activity left the score tied at 28. Branagan scored 8 of GC's first 17 points in the second half, with the last four of those points starting a 7-0 run that culminated in a 4-point lead with 13:19 remaining.
The Maple Leafs maintained a one- to two-possession lead for most of the half, stretching the margin to 8 points on a Curry foul shot with exactly 5:00 left and cracking double digits with 4:04 remaining. The rest of the game saw the offense come at the foul line, with a Cotton flush providing an exclamation point with 29 seconds left.
"I was really pleased with our defensive effort," said head coach Jon Tropf. "In the first half, we defended at a high level even when we struggled to score. In the second half, getting to the free-throw line and converting there was huge. This was a really good team win."
Goshen shot 11-of-21 (52 percent) after halftime and went 17-of-22 (77 percent) at the free-throw stripe. The defense forced 11 turnovers and benefited from 16 Laker fouls.
GC is idle until Friday, when the team visits Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan, for the final game before Christmas break. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Don Ridler Field House.
