Box Score Climbing out of a first-half hole, Austin Branagan and Alhassan Barrie sparked a second-half comeback, but the Goshen College men's basketball team came up short in a 75-51 loss at Huntington.
Huntington got out of the box early, building a 21-7 lead at the 11:42 mark in the first half. Following back to back buckets by Ben Cotton and Barrie, the host Foresters would extend the lead to more than 20 late in the half before taking a 44-25 lead into the intermission.
Barrie's basket to open the second half was answered by a pair of shots from Huntington before Goshen went on a 14-0 run to close the gap to six. Eli Gingerich opened the string with a basket at the 16:55 mark and then Branagan and Barrie combined for the next 12 points. Branagan and Barrie each scored before Branagan notched five straight, including an and-one. Barrie closed the run with a basket and
free throw with 12:40 remaining.
Huntington answered with a pair of baskets and Goshen could get no closer than seven the rest of the way, last cutting the deficit to single digits with a Ryan Mansberger 3-pointer at the 8:07 mark to make it 56-48 before the Foresters extended the lead to the game's final margin.
Barrie ended as the game's high scorer with 19 points and Branagan finished with 14. DeMarkus Stuckey scored eight and dished out a game-high six assists. Barrie pulled down seven rebounds and Branagan six. Three of Barrie's came on the offensive end. Both teams struggled from the field in the defensive tussle, with Huntington hitting 44.4 percent of its field goals and Goshen 31.6 percent.
The loss drops the Maple Leafs to 7-20 overall and 1-14 in the Crossroads league heading into Saturday's Senior Day tilt with St. Francis at 3 p.m.
