Box Score RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Kaitlyn Begley scored the game's only goal with 1:11 left in the first overtime period and the Goshen College women's soccer team won its second sudden-death game of the season Saturday with a 1-0 victory over the University of Rio Grande at Evan E. Davis Field.
Katie Baer made 4 saves for the Maple Leafs (4-2), who posted their first shutout of the season and recorded a third consecutive victory.
Megan Bower set the game-winning strike in motion with her 98th-minute corner. The ball was intercepted but mishandled by the URG defense and fell to Begley in the penalty area, where she scored her second goal of the season and set in motion a happy 6-hour return trip.
Paige Renshaw recorded 5 shots and put 3 of those on target to lead Goshen in both categories. While the Maple Leafs outshot the Red Storm (0-7) by a 9-5 margin in the second half of regulation, Rio Grande took three of the four shots in the extra session before Begley's winner.
GC finished with three corner kicks to Rio Grande's one.
Jayla Brown made a game-high 6 saves for the Red Storm, who got 6 of their 16 shots from Ambar Torres and another 3 from Amelia Bragg.
Goshen is idle at midweek before hosting Indiana Tech at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the final non-conference match of the season.
