Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College men's basketball team lost an 85-59 decision to Taylor University in Gunden Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
Michael Bowers led the Maple Leafs with 9 points, one more than the three players — Tahj Curry, Ben Cotton and Sheddrick Porter Jr. — who had 8. Porter paced the team with 5 assists.
Tanner Camp led Goshen (4-15, 0-7) with 7 rebounds and 2 blocks, both season highs. The senior registered the first multi-block game of his career with two stuffs on the same second-half possession and finished 1 point and 1 rebound away from his career high.
Curry added 5 rebounds while Michael Bowers joined Cotton with 4; Bowers and Grant Monix each racked up two steals.
Jason Hubbard led Taylor (11-8, 3-4) with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Vincent Miranda added 20 points and Ryan Robinson scored 18.
All five Trojan starters finished in double figures, with four of the five hitting at least 50 percent from the floor. James McCloud finished with a double-double after posting 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Taylor led 41-31 at the intermission, closing the first half on a 7-2 run after Colin Flowers' triple had pulled Goshen within 34-29. The Trojans then drained eight of their first 11 shots in the second half, opening a 59-40 lead by the 14:25 mark.
Goshen connected on three triples in the second half and seven for the game, with Curry and Cotton each dialing long-distance twice. The Maple Leafs shot 82.4 percent (14-of-17) at the foul line, upping their season percentage in a category where they started the night ranked 44th in NAIA Division II.
Flowers and Monix each added 5 points for GC. Braden Kingery added a bucket in the closing seconds, his first since Dec. 7.
The Maple Leafs return to the floor on Saturday when they host local rival Bethel University in the next installment of the U.S. Highway 20 Cup. The men's game, which counts for half a point in the annual competition, begins at approximately 3 p.m. after the women's game tips off at 1.
